You may never know their names, but their Father in heaven does.

Romans 12:8 (New International Version)
if it is encouraging, let him encourage; if it is contributing to the needs of others, let him give generously; if it is leadership, let him govern diligently; if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully.

Adopted beds

As I was sitting in front of my TV one morning, I watched a Christian woman teaching on how God sometimes asks illogical questions…such as Jesus asking the man with the withered hand to stretch that hand forth.  At another time Jesus asked a paralyzed man to pick up his bed and walk.  How illogical.  How miraculous.

Being named chaplain in January 2006, I had been thinking, thinking, and thinking more about the new Sedgwick County Juvenile Detention Facility, scheduled to open in April, 2006.  I had turned on my TV and heard someone say, “Ask God”.  I had gone to church and heard folks talk about what God has done when the person asked God for help, advice or direction. I had been thinking how could I raise my missionary support; how could I provide 3X as many bibles, curriculum, treats and especially prayer for the 108 youth in the new facility?  So I asked God.

After I watched this woman on TV, I felt God say, “Ten dollars and eighty cents, a dime for every bed in the new facility”.  Have you ever had a time when you knew God said something, even though it seemed illogical?  That was me on that day.

A few days later I went to our Tuesday morning prayer meeting at church.  I shared the idea of $10.80 and one of the men said, “Adopt a Bed”.  With that statement, 10-80 Adopt a Bed was birthed.  Every bed in the new facility would be adopted by a prayer warrior, at $10.80 a month.  Imagine that God gives us the land (the new facility) and we maintain it by prayer, prayer for every young one that lays his/her head down on that bed.  What an awesome thing!
